| Like most offshore communities, the weather is a serious
factor for us here in Venice, Lousiana. Considering the long runs that we typically make
all spring and summer and the fact that we enjoy a year-round fishery ensures that dealing
with, and trying to predict the weather are a full-time job. Below you will find several
links to resources that we use to try and predict the weather's next move. Coastal
Marine Forecast This is the National Weather
Service Official Coastal Forecast Site.
Buoy
Reports These are close to real-time reports from
several offshore buoys. Its put out and maintained by the National Weather Service. Click
on the enlargeable menu and try 42040 (this buoy is
about 45 miles East of South Pass) and the end of the river (Bur1). Generally we add
about a foot to the significant wave height figure to get an accurate assessment
of the conditions offshore.
Intellicast
Wind Map Another great resource that illustrates
wind speed and pressure gradients. Use the pull-down menu on top of the graphic to change
time frames.
Radar
Intellicast regional radar image. Its timely and easy
to use.
